Bruce Wayne just keeps getting richer.

"The Dark Knight," the crime saga about vigilante Batman and his wealthy alter ego Wayne, debuted with a record $158.4 million, according to final weekend numbers Monday. That was up $3.1 million from studio estimates of $155.3 million a day earlier.

Starring Christian Bale as Batman and the late Heath Ledger as the Joker, "The Dark Knight" surpassed Hollywood's previous best opening weekend of $151.1 million set last year by "Spider-Man 3."

The hotly anticipated sequel to "Batman Begins" grew into a cultural event after Ledger's death from an accidental prescription-drug overdose in January, with critical acclaim over his maniacal performance firing up fans for the film.

I am not surprized that it did so well, it really is a great movie I have seen it 3 times Heath Ledger's performance stands out above anyone elses in the movie. Although Christian Bale was pretty good in it he doesn't get enough credit, he did very well playing the part of Batman not quite as good as Michael Keaton but still very good.

When you look at the success that The Dark Knight achieved none even come close I thought a few would well maybe not be as close to Dark Knight but at least be pretty close to it.

I'll have to disagree. The Dark Knight is possibly the movie of the year. Everything was done well. The cast were all good, but Heath Ledger's acting was exceptional. The movie is very good. It's probably one of my favourite movies of all time now.

I haven't seen it yet, unfortunately. Sad I've heard it's really good, so I plan on seeing it asap. That's a pretty damn good amount of money though.

I found the movie was boring. The way they remade two face's character sucked, especially since Tommy Lee Jones was so special in the role, he made the character come alive. Heath's permormance was only a second-rate version of Jack Nicholson's version of the Joker. It's got nothing original about it. But like I said, that's my opinion and I'm sticking to it.
